The branching angle of this tree looks  different. That is why I feel it is not A. excelsa. And the tree's profile is also different.

... me too believe the plant posted to be Ailanthus excelsa ... commonly known as: Coromandel ailanto, tree of heaven • Gujarati:

Raghu ji, per what found on the internet ..
godda could be an apt name for Lannea coromandelica, the wodier tree, other names in Kannada being:
godde could be the grey downy balsam tree, Garuga pinnata, other names in Kannada being:

... but of course, being a native, you may please correct these names, if in error.

Regards.

Many of the people in the village know this solitary tree and call it by the name  Goddana mara, It is in fact considered to be of no significant commercial/ importance and left uncut. Trees like these are found in one or two numbers in the entire region and villagers are not aware of its  key identification or use Sometimes the local & scientific names contradict. More over the villagers do not know the names of any of the non native trees. for eg. They do not know the local/common name of the Gul mohar tree.

Raghu

Raghu ji ... what does godda in Kannada translate to ?
The sun paper tree (Ficus asperrima) could be a typo for sand paper tree.

Regards.

Yes,  Ficus asperrima is Sand paper tree.

Regarding sun-paper, as you said it could be a typo.

Hi,
These look like the Common Godzilla Ants [Camponotus compressus].

Also Streblus asper is commonly known as the Sandpaper tree.
                              With regards,

Godda when transleted to Kannada as was asked  by Dineshji is Katte.
In Marathi Mungala or Dongala.
Black ant is of smaller size and harmless, while this one bites.
