A Butterfly tree

[Padmini Raghavan]

Please help me id this tree growing on the premises of a Govt Office in Chennai.

It had a very interesting trunk and had some butterflies hovering over the fruit and flowers at the top of the tree.

It  looks like  Premna species.  One has to check the characters ( leaves, flowers etc.) to arrive at the species.  What is ithe colour of the flowers. Whitish, greenish or greenish white flowers? Dear Drs. Kunhikannan and Mahadeshwaraswamy,

   The fruits are spherical like small marbles. There were no flowers when I managed to photograph the tree.

  The only pic I was able to view on the net was one of Premna serratiofolia and the fruit matched but not the leaves.
