Dear Friends,

Ultimately one had to surrender to Mother Nature........whether it is the incessant rain in Mumbai or the Irene’s fury in New York.....So it was decided on Sunday early morning to respect the moods of Mother Nature, stay at home & watch Annaji break his fast with Coconut water which is one of the most well-known and useful Palm in the world!

We have rescheduled our Palm Walk of Heritage Garden, to be held now on 11th September at 8.am at Heritage Gardens, Hiranandani Gardens, Powai.

Meanwhile here are some interesting quotes & observation about Palms.....

Arecaceae is the family of palms. It  includes more than 2600 species in more than 200 genera. Palms are scattered all over the world in varied locations of tropical & sub-tropical regions…..mainly in Asia, Australia ,America and surprisingly few species in Africa. They are found in rainforest of Amazon or Himalaya[Cane Palm], in desert of Arabia[Date Palm ], on coral reef [Coconut], on land [Palmyra Palm, Tad ], on high mountains[Wax Palm], and even among  the mangroves  [ Nypa  Palm].India has about 96 species of which 24 are native.  Mharashtra  has about 60 species….more and more exotic palms are cultivated in private gardens so the number is increasing every day and exact number is not known.

Linnaeus (The father of Taxonomic Botany born 1707-1778) paid his homage to the whole race in declaring "that the human race should be classed as palmivorous, as those whose birthplace was the land of palms." "Man dwells naturally within the tropics," he exclaimed, "and lives on the fruit of the palm tree; he exists in other parts of the world, and there makes shift to feed on corn and flesh."

Here is request .......please do register your name with us if you decide to join the Walk and give your phone number too....incase of some difficulties …. it becomes easy for us to inform you.

Please also save our phone number in your cell phone.....

Thanks, Usha ji, for continuously organising TAW.
Such movements should be started in all the cities.
