Hi Dinesh,
Mr. Ananth's supporting data sheet suggest that the flower was photographed in garden/park of Mysore Ditsrict (Western Ghats).  Wherein as if we speak abt this flower (ekboli) is only recorede in wilderness of maharashtra. can someone throw light on it, since I've seen this shrub in matheran, Rajmachi, Bhimashankar & Tungareshwar (SGNP).

Hi Rajesh,

This flower grows on its own in my home garden.  (Info: Our region is considered to be semi deciduous, not Western ghats )

Raghu

This plant is Ecbolium for sure. It can grow in garden. There are
three possibilities i) dispersed by dispersal agent ii) planted by
someone iii) carried along with green manure or dry leaves. I think it
is Ecbolium ligustrinum (Acanthaceae).

Giby

For me, it looks like Ecbolium ligustrinum (Vahl) Vollesen.; also reported from Dry deciduous forest of Western Ghats in TN.
