Hello All

Gymnema sylvestre

its a climber called gud mar becuse if you chew leaf of this plant it interferes sweet taste of your tougue which returns only after chewing piece of coconut flesh:)

It contains gymnemic acid which interferes secretion of insulin from islets of Langerhans in pancreas so it can be used in treatment of diabetes mallitus

Gymnema sylvestre (Retz.) R.Br. ex Sm. Cycl. (Rees) 17 (1): n. 4. 1811

Syn: Periploca sylvestris Retz. Observ. Bot. (Retzius) ii. 15.

Gymnema: somewhere I found that it means sugar destroyer, but think
its wrongly interpreted. Some one who can help here. I would be
grateful.
sylvestre means, one that grows in forests.

This is a very high value medicinal plant.

You chew a leaf and then for almost whole day you cant feel the sweet
taste of sugar. Thats why this is also called as GURMAAR. One that
kills the effects of sugar.

jim-NEE-muh -- from the Greek gymn (naked), nema (thread) ... do not know how this alludes to plants belonging to this genus.
sil-VESS-tree -- of the woods, growing wild
