Wild Herb captured on 13/8/10 during the trek from Ghangaria (around 11,000 ft.) to Hemkunt Sahib (around 14000 ft.).

Leontopodium stracheyi seems out of range as well as not mentioned in in Concise Flowers of Himalayas by Oleg Polunin & Adam Stainton.
I think it better matches with Leontopodium himalayanum with details in Concise Flowers of Himalayas by Oleg Polunin & Adam Stainton with links as below:

A lot number of species have been established after FBI, and unless we have a reliable key  of Himalayan species, it may be difficult. L. jacotiatum has stolons (not found in L. himalayanum/stracheyi), and unless we have photographs of basal branches, it may be difficult from photographs.
