A common plant  in  shrub jungles of Chennai, especially in I I T and Guindy National Park; often in open places.

Madhuri ji ... this non-native plant (American Snakeroot) could be bigger in some aspect than the native Rauvolfia serpentina, the Indian Snakeroot whose ayurvedic names are चन्द्रिका chandrika, नाकुली nakuli, पातालगरुड patalgaruda, सर्पगंधा sarpagandha.

:-) ... not sure about it being Chandrika Hair Oil's ingredient ... someone like Kadus ji, familiar with Ayurveda may be able to comment.
