Dear all,

Dendrocalamus giganteus Wall. ex Munro for you.

Localty: Tuting (Indo-China border), Upper Siang district, Arunachal Pradesh (ca 700m)

Date: Nov. 2006.

Uses: A multipurpose bamboo for the local communities of Arunachal Pradesh. They are primarily used to make houses but the young shoots are also eaten with choice. Here you can see a couple (belonging to Adi tribe) preparing pickles from the young shoots. Other species are also used for the same purpose.

Regards,
Ritesh.
