Dear friends,

I am using Ubuntu 11.10 on Lenovo Ideapad Z570 laptop. After
installing Ubunut 11.10 my battary life has been reduced to 2 hours.
(Previously I got around 3 hr battery life, even now I am getting more
than 3 hrs in windows) . Is there anyway to fix this problem?

Have you tried updating to the latest kernel? There used to be some
Linux kernel regression that caused higher power usage. If I remember
right, it will be fully fixed in a future release only.

add pcie_aspm=force i915.i915_enable_rc6=1 to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT
in /etc/default/grub
then run
sudo updat-grub

restart
you will get your battery life back
but there is a catch, it will affect your graphic capabilities a little bit.
i didnt try latest kernel, so cant comment on that.

This is a known issue, I am also hit by the same. Power regression happened after kernel version 2.6.28

This is the current situation

The fix is almost confirmed, but will not hit the Ubuntu 11.x kernels immediately. The only hope is that Canonical will backport the kernel and make it available in Ubuntu 11.x sometime early next year.
