Hello sir
I talked in IGIT. They are willing to organize a workshop there ( really had to tell them what FOSS means for 2-3 days).
They are asking about feasibility of such workshop on 24th October.
I can move forward after getting your views on the date as well as topics.
Thanking You

@parin
well. let me discuss again. Which college are you in ?
Hi
24th is better than 25th .
There is OSSCAMP on 24-25 , BARCAMP on 25 th .
So I suggest 24 is better option .
@ parini have jeard about your college parin. Don't underestimate yourself. I think reaching your college is much difficult. So let's discuss a plan though.
Well I invite more suggestions having so many workshops/events in such short span of time wouldn't effect the partcipation or enthusiasm ?

hi parinwell actually IGIT would be having some problem in conducting the workshop so it is ok for you to choose the timings as per your convenience. Thanks for the quick reply and hope the problems are over soon so that FOSS will spread more and more.
Well, which year u r in ?I am in 3rd Year CSE i think you know someone of my college right?
2009/10/12 Parin Sharma <parin....@gmail.com>
@Parin -
We will have workshop at 24th October 2009 at Parin's college.
Time will be 9.30 am to 3pm
Or
12.00 am to 6pm
which is more suitable ??
lunch break can create problem so I think 12am to 6pm is better
option. What you think Parin ?
I have also created a wiki page on workshop - - Please go ahead to add
content over it.
***Tasks***
1) We need to make a full wiki page within 2 days -
http://lug-iitd.org/Workshop_on_FOSS_in_KIIT_College_of_Engineering_Gurgaon
Page can have following things in it
** Venue and timing details
** Speaker's and presentation's details
** No need to make a section for edit and make registration (anyone
can come and attend)
2) We need to make a announcement of our workshop with details within 2-3 days
3) we need to posterout the posters in neighbour colleges also.
4) I am trying to make a booklet of 20-50 pages which will be a short
tutorial course on FOSS and Open Standards which We can distribute
over workshop. we will keep the cost of this booklet , as minimum we
can. -- I will make a rough outline of booklet by tonight and
copy-paste many well wrtten articles on it.
5) We need 2-3 speaker also. I will try to arrange it. wake FOSS

* You will need to mention "Entry free", so people know that they
don't need to pay for any registration, if it is not required. The
general assumption is that one needs to pay for such workshops.
* Provide an openstreetmap with directions, perhaps? or nearby
landmarks at the venue.
* It will also be good to mention the modes of possible transportation
available to get to the venue.
* If people come from outside Delhi, will they be given any
accomodation? or mention that no accomodation will be provided for
outstation participants.
* It also helps to include mailing list, IRC information so people
know where they can follow-up, in case, they are unable to attend the
workshop. Otherwise, Parin Sharma will be spammed with lot of e-mails
and phone calls. It is also best not to give phone numbers, in this
regard.
* If you already have an agenda, it helps to list them so people know
what they can expect out of the workshop, unless, they are already
part of this group, and know what this group is about.
* It also helps to list the possible software/tools that will be
demoed, because, there is a large public audience who use F/OSS, but,
don't know that they are actually using it on a day-yo-day basis (like
Firefox, for example).
* If you ask people to bring the laptops, do mention if you will
provide any Internet connectivity (wired, wireless), if any.
* Could possibly work more on the template structure of the document,
but, as always, time is a constraint for all of us.
My best wishes for the workshop.

Thanks a lot. I am following the points.
Can Narendra and his team please record all the workshops. It would be helpful, really helpful to those who couldn't make it there. Also if possible if you could also do a bit of screen casting.
It would be lovely to get such recordings. As i enjoy studying from MIT OCW and also more of the conferences like PyCon are recorded. So why not this one.
