I have filed this bug as issue #1979, as reported here:

The empty @type attribute issue has been fixed as of today, see:

However, I cannot reproduce the issue which caused the "bad tag name" for the empty item-level <did/> element without knowing exactly what elements you added. If you have any information on what changes you made specifically within ICA-AtoM, or a list of steps to create the same problem, I would be happy to attempt to resolve this issue as well.
