Ingushetia: Three Residents of Sunzhenskiy District Disappeared

Burnt body of one of them was found the next day

On June 11, 2012 in the Sunzhenskiy district of the Republic of Ingushetia (RI) in unexplained circumstances three residents of Arshty village Bai-Ali Dzhamarzaevich Makhauri, born in 1982, Bekkhan Shamsudinovich Zhukalaev (from other sources - Dzhukalaev), born in 1985, and Islam Vakhaevich Bazgiev, born in 1990, disappeared.

According to Lom-Ali, brother of Makhauri, Bai-Ali in his green vehicle VAZ-21099 went to relatives to the Berd-Yurt village to help with the construction of the fence. He was accompanied by Bekkhan Zhukalaev and Islam Bazgiev. In the evening they were returning home. As it became known to the relatives, between the settlements of Berd-Yurt and Arshty (the distance between the villages is about seven or eight kilometers) the car, in which the young people were going, was stopped by unidentified men in camouflage uniforms. They were in three "Lada Priora" cars and in white minibus "Gazel." What happened next, relatives do not know.

According to the Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation in RI, on June 12, at about 7 a.m., on the outskirts of Berd-Yurt (according to the Ministry of Interior Affairs of Ingushetia, on the outskirts of the Chemulga village, which is situated in about two kilometers from Berd-Yurt) scorched body of the car was found, presumably of the VAZ-21099. Also fragments of a man's body were found on the site. The victim was identified by his family as a resident of the Arshty village Bekkhan Zhukalaev (on the web-site of the Investigative Department he is named “Beslan” by mistake).

On the website of the Ministry of Interior Affairs of Ingushetia it is also reported that an explosion of up to 800 grams of TNT could be the cause of the fire of the car. Burnt car belongs to Bai-Ali Makhauri.

On June 13, on the fact of disappearance of Bai-Ali Makhauri his brother Lom-Ali filed a written application to the Department of MIA of the Russian Federation in the Sunzhenskiy district of RI, and on June 14 wrote a statement to the investigation department of the Sunzhenskiy district of RI.

On June 15, Lom-Ali Makhauri appealed to human rights organizations and to the Ombudsman in RI. He asked to help to find his brother.

As of June 18, the whereabouts of Makhauri and Bazgiev is still unknown.
