FOLEY CATHETER REMOVAL

If it is known on POD 0 the foley will need to remain & it is properly documented are we able to choose allowable value 2?

No. The documentation must be found in the chart on postop day 1 or 2.

No, unfortunately, documentation still needs to be on POD 1 or 2.

I had a intra-operative Foley placed by Urology on POD 0 for urethral
stricture with very clear documentation on that day to discharge the
patient with the Foley. The patient was to F/U wih Urology for an
upsize in 2 weeks. No documentation by primary team on POD 1 or 2.

I posted the question to QNet Quest and was instructed to fail the
chart :(

It looks like the documentation needs to be on POD 1 or 2 regardless
of the issue.

I think that should be clarified in the Specs manual that
documentation cannot be found on POD 0 because....

....because on the day of surgery, you often don't know if the patient will still need a catheter three days later. Hospitals need to have systems that routinely monitor ongoing need for urinary catheters.
