Hi Eva,
I'm trying to figure out what tape to buy still, deciding between gorilla tape and the highly flammable bidi filament tape which would have to be overnighted at this point, 2nd day air at the least.  I'm uncomfortable with such a volatile tape lining our yurt.

I'm also trying to find a ride midweek for my wife.  We're in Marin north of SF.  I'm wondering if you know of anyone that might have some extra room for a midweek ride up?  I'd take her but she can't leave with me and I have to leave this Sun afternoon.  If not, any tips on where to find midweek rides?

Kind regards,

-Alejandro

Might I also suggest that people bring pictures of their structures
too, if possible? It would be great to actually see all of the
different variations on a theme, right? I'll be bringing a print-out
of my whole nerdy Quad Dome presentation.

Thanks Camp-Danger, for posting so much useful information about the
hinges, etc. You saved us *hours* of precious Play-time already. We
are looking forward to thanking you personally and seeing Vinay, if
only digitally. :)

Yep, signed up with it last night.  It is a great website. Still trying to find a ride for my wife though, as the one local option Tuesday evening seems to be full already (we're in Marin and she was willing to go to the city, then bart to the east bay to catch the ride).  Seems the one shortcoming on the website is not the website itself, rather, it's people getting back to their listing to indicate they no longer have space in their car.
I'll keep trying. Thanks Mark!

All,

It was great to put faces with names, though most of the Big Names had left by the time we got there, I was quite pleased to meet you all, and particularly, Camp-Danger!   And, spoken from someone that's never had a "good" gin & tonic, it was actually delicious!!!  Maybe it was the fresh lime?  Thanks!  :)

Sooo...  who's posting pictures, and where?  because, of course, we didnt' get any pictures of our hats...  :\  and they got a bit, um, dis-assembled, by the end of the week.

I have a hexayurt folder on my FB page that has a few happy hour
shots, as well as the H13 build at home, set-up on the playa, some H13
on-playa interior shots, as well as said happy hour.

If any of you would like to have a peek, please feel free:

I loved the Happy Hour, especially because it was within walking
distance from my Mark ll hexayurt (6ft vertical sides). Meeting Julie
and all the other hexayurt fans was awesome. I got so many great ideas
(especially the Danger Door) for next year I'm really going to be
camping like a gentleman.

Alejandro, one of your pictures has me with Miss Hexayurt, her court,
and Julie Danger. I'm in heaven. I'll do the same thing with my
hexayurt photos & videos if I can.

One thing, I'd like to see photos of interiors, everyone liked my
closet but other than that I'm challenged decorating wise.

Paul and Charlie, glad you liked the photos. Yes Charlie, I'd agree,
looks like heaven to me too.
By chance I decided to show my H13 interior in those pics, my air
mattress was a HUGE bonus, I can't recommend them more highly if
you're just not prepared for hard ground. Didn't take that long to
fill up either, with a foot-pump. I found myself thinking of curtains
too, don't know why. I guess the aluminum foil wallpaper is just a
bit strange.

We used one of the 4x8 plywood boards (that we used to make the tarp
panel sandwich with for transport on my roof rack) as a sort of porch
entry, where you could take your shoes off before entering. My wife
and I really liked that for reducing dust inside.

Charlie, your closet sounds awesome. Even on the playa, I found myself
not wanting to wear excessively wrinkled clothes from my suitcase. I
thought of shelving, or even just simple hooks and how to hang things
like keys, flashlights and what not because there is SO much unused
airspace especially in an H13 and not too many ways of organizing all
your crap. I couldn't help wondering how to put use to at least some
of that airspace to use, and get some of my stuff off of the (dusty)
ground. Next time I'm adding a 2nd window to get more cross-flow,
maybe a heat turbine on the roof, and a swamp cooler for sure, as
often towards the later afternoon when it would start to cool down
outside, it was still stuffy hot inside the yurt and you only had 2
options - stay inside and sweat, or go outside and find some shade.
And then I'll think of some other comforts to add too, like a closet.
Of course, I've seen portable closets that would fit inside my H13
too, probably not as much fun as designing your own though.

All-night dance clubs and sound-proofing:
I was camped across from the Comfort and Joy club at 7:00 and
Engagement (which by the way was quite a trek to Happy Hour), an ALL-
NIGHT (and into the morning) club. So no matter how thick the panels
on your yurt might be, they will not filter out the noise from an all-
night club with a generator-powered sound system. Along with the air
mattress, I was SO glad that I also packed ear plugs, 33 decibel foam
to be exact. They did no good for my wife the first night because she
didn't stuff them properly into her ears to form a proper seal. The
plugs and the air mattress saved me, and once I showed my wife how to
mush them up and insert them properly, she slept great. Of course the
shelter that the yurt provides is stellar, especially when compared to
just plain old tents by themselves, but is basically NO BARRIER AT ALL
to a sound system. The more windows and vents you have, the more
external noise you'll get too.

Charlie:
When I cut my stretch hexayurt I had a few pieces of scrap left over.
I found that by taping the obtuse angle ends together they formed a
triangular shape that fit perfectly in the angled end wall of my yurt.
I had enough to build two shelves with rectangular pieces to support
them along the wall and in the middle. I put this at the head of my
bed to store my lantern, ear plugs, flashlight, and other small items
I might need during the night.

Phil:
I didn't do anything as tricky as that. My closet was simply one of
those that are put together with metal rods, and has a fabric cover
that zips up. The key was I have a 6ft tall Hexayurt so it fit along
the wall. It was dust protected so the stuff was clean. I even hung up
my drying towel so the next shower wasn't with a dust impregnated
(muddy) towel.

I'll try to do something like the shelves next year because having a
place to store the gear we constantly use would be very helpful. At
night I was constantly looking for my stuff, and trying to balance a
light so I could feed my pre-sleep addiction (reading). Also my
headlamp, dust mask, goggles, etc were generally on the floor near the
door. I could use a going outside shelf near the door like the keys,
wallet, sunglasses table I have at home.

When I package my hexayurt I end up with a void in the tarp. My roof
folds up to a neat 4'x8' package but my vertical walls are only 4'x6'.
I end up with a 2'x4'x12" area to fill. This year I filled it with the
rubber floor I used but I could see making a bunch of furniture that
would pack in the void. Anyone have any thoughts on shelving needs,
and what could come out of a 4x8 panel?

We have used the playatech 'ploset' (closet) and 'bedevator' (bed
platform with nightstands) for the last 2 years in our hexayurt and
they have both been great. The little wings on the bed platform that
serve as 'nightstands' are perfect for those little items you might
need during the night and the closet has an upper shelf where we keep
other things we don't want to get lost in the shuffle. We also put
those little battery operated tea lights along the shelf for some nice
ambiance at night.

I have a Bedvator, too. It's fantastic, although I've been idly wondering if a double-height inflatable bed might be better. I think it might weigh less. Packing-wise, it's squishy, so it packs pretty well and can fit through the Hexayurt door. With the Bedvator, you need to build the Hexayurt around it.

If you go the Bedvator route, consider rounding its corners to better protect the Hexayurt walls (and your shins) from gouges.

For the Ploset, if you have 4' tall walls, you'll need to trim the top so it fits against the wall; otherwise it's just a little too tall.
