Locations to buy 1" R-Max Boards in Bay Area?

Hi All,

I'm posting on behalf of a friend who is trying to build a new H12 this year.  In years past, I've always had success getting boards from Lowe's.  Even last year I was camping with some virgins, and they got their boards from Lowe's.  It appears this year, Lowe's indicated they are no longer carrying the 1" R-Max insulation boards.  A sales rep at the store indicated they have discontinued carrying them.

Last I checked, Home Depot sells them but the price was around $19.00 per board or more.  Lowe's (when they sold them), had them for around $15.00 or so.  This is some substantial savings when purchasing all 12.

Has anyone bought these boards lately in the bay area, and if so can they provide me with details on where they bought them from and how much it costed per board?  We're only interested in the 1" R-Max.

Hi Ray -

By coincidence, I went to Home Depot the other night to price R-Max. It looks like they just raised the price. Darn. $19 was for the 1.5 inch. I see the price has changed online too. I went to the E. PA Home Depot.

I bought from my local lumber yard. Look for a lumber yard that serves contractors, not focussed on DIYs. I paid $24 for 1-1/2" R-Max, so $19 is not a bad price. I think it's better to pay a little more for the extra insulation and strength. The 1" panels will be weak and let in 50% more sound. I like to sleep.

I live in the Santa Cruz, CA. area & have found ABC roofing supply has the best price for 1" 17.50 & 1&1/2" 21.00  & they have good amounts on hand.  So in your area check roofing supply companies.
