I've been thinking guys. Almost since Habari just came out, all the
themes that have been in it, have been either recycled themes from
other platforms, or they've been a bit... I wouldn't even say
mediocre, but they haven't been anything special. So after giving
some thought to some of the comments in my 'Is Habari dead?' post here
a couple weeks back, I think I should have a go at creating a new
theme for Habari, one which, hopefully with all your help, could
become our new standard, Habari-exclusive theme.

A quick introduction to those of you who either don't know me, or
don't remember me as I haven't been to active in the community here
for the last year or so (back when I used to be very active in the IRC
channel, I went by the name 'Ink').

I'm a graphic artist specializing primarily in web design. By now
probably a good 7 years of hands on experience, in the time have
worked on sites which get hundreds of thousands of uniques monthly,
companies with income with 6-7 zeros etc... point is, no I'm not the
best, but I'm pretty damn good at what I do. A portfolio which I
haven't updated in like half a year can be found at inkspill.net.

Anyways, back to the theme. I want this theme to be amazing, simple
as that. I want people to look at it, and go 'holy hell this shit
looks slick, this alone is worth switching to Habari for'. That is my
goal for it. My intention however, is to design it while getting
everyone's ideas too. I don't want it to become a design-by-
committee / too-many-cooks-in-the-kitchen type of thing, but given
that this is a community project, and everyone has a voice in it, I
want to hear your ideas too. No, I'm not saying lets include every
single idea every person has, but if your idea is genuinely good, it
would be plain stupid and ignorant to not give it some thought and
consideration.

So my question to you all today is the following;

Habari, where does it shine? I want this theme to highlight the best
features of Habari, I want it to make people drool. What things are
so great and unique about Habari, why would someone want to use it
instead of WP or the like. This is what the flagship theme needs to
communicate to the visitor.

Thanks a ton in advance for your input, I'm very very eagerly waiting
to hear from you.

I want to knock this out over the next month and/or by the time 0.7 is
ready to ship, either way, lets all try to do our part to make 0.7 the
best release thus far.

First off, fucking awesome you want to do this. As for the ideas, whenever one will pop in my head, I am writing you.

Sounds great that you want to contribute. I look forward to seeing what you cone up with.

One thing to note though. We value the contributions of every member of this community equally so I would appreciate it of you would keep that in mind when referring to the work that has been given to us by individuals.

You might not like them from an aesthetic standpoint, but degrading them is not acceptable. That is someones work that they believed in our community enough to donate so we could benefit from it.

Thanks.

Chris.

Very well put Chris. I'm not the best but I've been more than happy to add more themes for the community and not all of them have been ports. I admit I was a little put off by this post when I first read it.

Apologies Chris, Amanda,

I didn't mean to come off sounding that way. Obviously it wasn't my
intent to put anyone down, and yes, obviously I do value everyone's
work here, if not for everyone here, Habari wouldn't even exist.
Sorry again for that, I should've worded all of that better.

But anyways guys, lets get started on this asap please! Really want to
get the ball rolling :D

While the original question still stands...

Habari, where does it shine? I want this theme to highlight the

so great and unique about Habari, why would someone want to use it
instead of WP or the like. This is what the flagship theme needs to

I have another question to add to that. Before I get started on any
design, I'd like to get a bit more 'research' done if you want to call
it that so when the design is started, it progresses that much more
smoothly.

Question: On the habariproject.org website, there are a lot of
points about how Habari is so technically advanced and is using all
the latest technologies. What kind of fancy things could we do with
them to show off to the end user?

First, congrats, that for sure would help a lot getting people impressed!. Habari uses hmtl 5? can you get that fancy instant_search (-extras) on the front page? whatever being far from a 'regular' blog template in indeed a great theme. But unfortunately themes are very related to the use case (a theme for a news site has nothing to do with a theme for a personal profile site), so.. what is the use case you'd like to expose?
