I just installed 3.0 on an Everex PC from Walmart. With the old
version of gOS (based on Ubuntu 7.10) I am able to connect to my
wireless LAN but not with the new version (based on Ubuntu 8.04).
Sometimes the SSID of the network is detected but sometimes not. When
it is recognized connection fails. I'd appreciate any help. I'm a
refugee from Windows and new to Linux so please make allowance for
that. Thanks.

Hi. I don't know what type of wireless integrated card have your PC.
But, are you trying to install Windows Wireless Drivers??

Install it from Add/Remove applications, Windows Wireless Drivers and
then search for the .inf file of your specified wireless card (need to
download from support of manufacturer).

Post your results.

Sorry it took a while to reply. I had to drag all the hardware
downstairs to connect to the internet via ethernet cable instead of
wireless. The USB wirelesss adapter is Belkin F5D6050. I downloaded
the files from the Belkin website and started the Install GUI. When I
click on Install nothing happens. There is no .inf file in the
downloaded files. I found a belkin_sa.ko file in /lib/modules/
2.6.24-19-generic/kernel/drivers/serial.

Thanks for your help. It's working now. The articles were useful.
There are a still a few kinks to work out e.g. Firefox starts up in
Offline mode, desktop wireless connection monitor shows offline, but
at least I have Internet access.

workaround for the Firefox starting up offline :

for firefox (>=3.0.1) only
open firefox
key in about:config in url bar
Set toolkit.networkmanager.disable to true
