I have four gadgets on my desktop and each one has a black border.Is
there any way to get rid of the border?

Did you change the desktop theme? I did and now i have black (dark
grey) borders around gadgets too, even after I have reverted to the
gOS3 theme. before I had no borders, and for example the flower pot
had a transparent outline. Perhaps this is another theme related bug?

i had the same problem but found if you close each gadget and reinstall it the border will disappear

yeah, I can confirm that, I removed all gadgets and installed one new
one, but that one also had grey rectangular borders, instead of a
transparent background.

The first time I installed the new GOS i didnt have this problem.The
only time it occurred was with Compiz and Emerald in use.This time it
was like this from installation.As long as it doesn't cause other
issues I am not worrying about it.I just thought it was something with
an easy fix I was overlooking.Thanks to the creators of GOS for a
really cool Linux distro.

Make sure you have xcompmgr listed as a startup program in the Menu --
> Preferences --> Sessions
Google Gadgets needs some form of compositing to work correctly, if
you don't have compiz just make sure the xcompmgr begins at startup.

Where do I find xcompmgr?
During my attempts to install compiz I removed the whole entry, now I
cannot re-add it. Just adding "xcompmgr" as the executables name does
not work, and I cant find a "xcompmgr" file anywhere.

open computer then usr bin xcompmgr

Make sure that you have xcompmgr on your system.
Access Synaptic Package Manager and search for xcompmgr
Install it if necessary.
Then follow the steps from the previous post.
Go to
Menu --> System Preferences --> Preferences --> Sessions
Click Add
Enter whatever you wish for a name or comment.
But under command be sure too add xcompmgr
That should fix you right up. ;-)

Ah yes, of course, in my zeal I had also removed xcompmgr with
Synaptic.

Thats good, sorry you never got the Compiz problem sorted out. But hey
atleast you have the xcompmgr on there and your Gadgets will display
fine now.

Haven't come around buying and installing a new video card, many
