Guys, I'm not able to get the dev plugin work in IE8. I uninstalled it
in Control Panel as suggested and re-installed it in IE8. It installs
fine and I can see it in Control Panel, but the next time I try with
IE8, it asks for the plugin again. I've tried it several times now
with no success. Could someone help?

1. Have you attempted to restart IE and test after installing the plugin?

2. Can you verify that the following registry entries are available (<UID> being the unique identifier assigned to your account):

Some further debugging to get an idea of what's going on. I'm not convinced that the missing reg entries are the root cause (at least not yet). That said, I do have some follow-up questions:

1. Are you running a 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows?
2. Is the following registry key installed: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{1D6156B6-002B-49E7-B5CA-C138FB843B4E}? If so, what are its subkeys and values?
3. What happens when you run "regsvr32.exe oophm.dll"? Can you try running "regsvr32.exe /u oophm.dll" and then "regsvr32.exe oophm.dll"?
4. Are there any glaring errors within the Windows Event Viewer (either System or Application level)?

Oh and i cant find an oophm.dll anywhere on my system. Where should
it be?

I dont see any errors in the event viewer either. Install runs fine
from within ie and directly from the file system. Both run and give
me a success message but nither seem to work. I restarted ie multiple
times and rebooted the PC.

That's the conclusion i'm sticking with until told otherwise. I've
wasted a good 2 hours today trying to get it to work on my dev box
with no luck.

The dev plugin so far seems amazing in ff. Should make development go
much faster when making minor changes. I hope they figure out what's
wrong with Vista 64 soon.

There are several threads going around relating to this issue. Just to clarify, Trevis is correct, the IE Developer Plugin currently does not support 64 bit versions of Windows.

That said, it should be working on 32 bit versions. I've created the following to track the issue. Please add as much detail as possible in the comments section.

I run Vista 64 bit and I have the debugger plug-in for both FF and
IE8. I'm not having any problems with it. For IE, it only works in IE8
32 bit, not IE8 64 bit. But it is on a 64 bit OS.

works for me in 64bit win 2003 server with 32bit IE8. But only when
logged in as Administrator. When trying to install as as normal user
with "run as" > "Adminsitrator" it gets sucessfully installed but the
page still thinks the plugin is not installed. Any ideas?

regsvr32.exe "C:\Users\Ian\AppData\Local\Google\Google Web Toolkit\Developer Plugin\IE\oophm.dll"

It seems that when I select "Run as > Administrator" the plugin gets
installed into the administrator's app data directory. when I manually
copy the oophm.dll file to my home directory and issue the suggested
command (regsrv32.exe <path to dll>) I got it running. It this a bug
or a feature? Is there a proper solution for this?

thanks!
