If you don't mind the first column scrolling out of the view, then just add style to the first column.

Any other solution is many times more complicated: a FlowPanel with special CSS settings that houses two DataGrids side by side with fixed row heights (or special logic to sync heights of all rows), and a resize handler. I am not sure this is worth your time to simply avoid situations when the first column is scrolled out of the view.
