Trouble installing Google Eclipse Plugin 1.2 RC1

I´m having issues getting the Plugin version 1.2 RC1 to work correctly
in Eclipse.

I followed the instructions found here:
http://code.google.com/p/google-web-toolkit/wiki/GWT_2_0_RC

I´m using Eclipse Galileo 3.5 and downloaded the following archive:
http://dl.google.com/eclipse/plugin/3.5/zips/gpe-e35-1.2rc1.zip

Unpacked the zipfile as described here
http://code.google.com/intl/sv-SE/eclipse/docs/install-from-zip.html

My issues:

* Selecting "New project" from the file menu no longer presents an
option to create a GWT project.

* There´s no "Google" context menu when right clicking a GWT 2.0 RC1
project.

* GWT is nowhere to be found under Window -> Preferences

However only selecting "New" from the file menu there´s a "Google Web
Toolkit" directory containing options to create ClientBundle and
UiBinder among other things

Did I miss something?

Couple of investigative questions:

1. Did you restart Eclipse after installing the plugin?

2. You mention there is no option to create a new "GWT" project, is there a Google parent folder within the new project wizard view?

3. Would you mind adding your Eclipse error log to this thread? Window->Show View->Error Log and then right click/ctrl click to export.

Thanks for the logs. The line:

java.lang.NullPointerException at com.android.ide.eclipse.adt.internal.launch.EmulatorConfigTab.createControl

and:

Path: 'com.google.gdt.eclipse.suite.popupMenu.project' is invalid

definitely look suspect.

Was this a clean install of Eclipse? And to get a better idea of your environment, would you be able to provide:

1. A snapshot of what is in your Eclipse/dropins directory

2. A listing of currently installed plugins (Help->Install New Software, and click on the "What is already installed" link in the lower right hand corner)

I've personally tested this several times without error. Would you mind replying with the list of installed plugins so we can check what version you have installed on your system?

Help->Install New Software, and click on the "What is already installed" link in the lower right hand corner

I've a similar if not the same problem, I'm using the maven2 plugin
and for 2 projects which had pom.xml files my maven dependencies are
gone. When I run via the menu "Update Dependencies" I see the
following lines being added to the eclipse log file. These lines are
the same as reported by Dalla, so it might be related.

I'm using eclipse JEE IDE 3.5 for webdevelopers with maven2 plugin ,
winXP, which had google plugin 1.1.2.v200910131704 installed prior to
installing the 1.2 RC plugin, with gwt ms2 (and previously with 1.71
and 1.6.4) I installed it by placing the plugin from the zip in the
eclipse dropins directory.

Yeah, that was it.

To be clear:
I install Eclipse as root. When I put the GEP into the dropins directory, I forgot that I had installed the GEP plugin using the Eclipse software installer. After temporarily removing the directory in dropins, I uninstalled the earlier GEP. After replacing the new version in dropins and starting Eclipse as root, all is as expected.

Great to here. After talking this over with Rajeev it is worth pointing out to the rest of the group that the general installation rules for Eclipse 3.4 and up are set such that installs via updates will take precedence over installs via the dropins directory.

I got it working now, apperently it wasn´t enough to uninstall the
GEP, I also had to uninstall the GWT SDK for 1.7.1 aswell as the SDK
for GAE 1.2.6
