Upgraded to Ubuntu Karmic and now I'm having issues:

I've got my own copy of Eclipse Gallileo (Build id: 20090920-1017),
everything worked fine before the upgrade, but now the search
mechanisms are broken (in file and through the search tab). Click the
Search Button and nothing happens.

So I thought, let me check out the "official Ubuntu" version of
eclipse (Version: 3.5.1
Build id: M20090917-0800). I started that up and attempted to install
the GWT Plugin and got the following error:

one or more required items could not be found.
Software being installed: Google Plugin for Eclipse 3.5
1.1.2.v200910131704
(com.google.gdt.eclipse.suite.e35.feature.feature.group
1.1.2.v200910131704)
Missing requirement: Google Plugin for Eclipse 3.5
1.1.2.v200910131704
(com.google.gdt.eclipse.suite.e35.feature.feature.group
1.1.2.v200910131704) requires 'org.eclipse.wst.sse.ui 0.0.0' but it
could not be found

Any thoughts?

Hey guys,

Typically when this happens, the flavor of Eclipse (e.g. Eclipse for Java) does not have the necessary update sites bundled to get the missing dependencies (in this case, WST).  I'll try verifying this tonight on a Karmic machine.

Jason,

Thanks for looking into this. When I get time I'm going to report the
search problem on Build id: 20090920-1017 to Ubuntu and Eclipse. Just
a little busy right now. I found that search is working if I hit
return while in the search box, but not when I press the search
button.

Hi Bob

I guess this is a problem between ubuntu karmic and eclipse < 3.6 ,
I've fixed this with this post :

http://www.norio.be/blog/2009/10/problems-eclipse-buttons-ubuntu-910

launch your eclipse with the following env variable :

#!/bin/sh
export GDK_NATIVE_WINDOWS=1
/opt/eclipse-3.5/eclipse

regards.

That fixed the original problem with the search button. Thanks.

Hey everyone, I had the same problems but i got it all working. Its a
little funky with eclipse and updates, sometimes it doesn't always
show the options for google in the "install packages" dialog.

What I had to do in general was this (mind you, I'm not sure all the
steps were necessary ):
1) Inside of the galileo update site there is a "web tools" checkbox
option in the very last group at the bottom, install that
2) I enabled the web tools site in the list of managed sites
3) added google as a update site ( if you've already done this and
have trouble getting the checked boxes I suggest removing the google
managed site, restart, and adding it again [ I guess it caches the
fact that it failed to find a dependency?? ] )

I also added the sun-jdk, but that may be unrelated to why this worked

Lastly,

When I tried to run the GWT app, I got a problem of not getting libstdc
++5 (apparently karmic only has c++6, so I had to go to get a debian
sarge package at http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/pool/main/g/gcc-3.3/libstdc++5_3.3.6-18_i386.deb
)
