I read about the upcoming channel API (comet stuff) on the app engine
blog. I know it is still in an early stage but anybody has any link to
any kind of preview?

You can write your code in such a way that when channel API ships, you can switch over with minimal effort. Wrap the API calls with your own adapter and just switch that over when needed.
