Hi everybody,

Does anyone knows why the second instance is still alive after serving only 2 requests in about 38 hours (cf. attachment) ?

It would cost me a lot in the new pricing model.

Thanx for your help.

That's called a "built-in profit margin."

I've noticed that all my HR app instances seem to stay alive for a
very long time. Google says their new scheduler will change all
this....

You're right, it's an HR application too.  Thanx for your answer.

Yes, indeed, to be clear this is one of the biggest changes we are making to the scheduler.  We currently take down instances when there is memory pressure to do so, this means that periodically an unused instance will sit around for quite a while.  The scheduler will start taking down instances more aggressively.

Thanks!

Hi Greg,

Thanx for you answer.

Do you have any timeline about when all these changes will occur ?

Gregory:

I hope it works well. I can have 4 instances up when I am the only
user of my application, just clicking around and doing smth that tens
of thousands of users will do... it'd be scary if they used tens of
thousands of instances...

We don't have a specific timeline yet as to when it will go live but soon so that you'll be able to get a better idea of what future bills will look like.  Paul, concurrent requests will help enormously with that as well as the scheduler being less aggressive in spinning up instances, I can see why extrapolating from your current data point might seem scary :)

Let's demand that Google should drop the instance pricing model. Or else!!! Or else we will switch to Yahoo! and Bing. Heck, that could even be interesting. To stop using Google products altogether. He he.
