Branches in Gitorious

Hi,
Our project has few subcomponents already submitted to gitrious,
now we would want to make branches and divide these packages in to
different projects, is there any easy way to do this with out
disturbing the existing sources much?
i could use any contact in this case as it is very important for us
now.
i can give more details if any one is there to help.

please suggest what can be done now!
