After I install gtk-2.12.9-win32-2.exe and ggobi-2.1.8.exe (from the
ggobi download page links), ggobi throws the following error message 7
times whenever I launch it:

"This application has failed to start because MSVCR80.dll was not
found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem."

I've uninstalled and re-installed both 2 times but keep getting the
same error.

I have several instances of this DLL on my system, but I do not know
if any of them are the right versions or where it should be. Can
anyone help me with this?

-By the way, I tried searching the archives for MSVCR80.dll and get no
hits.

Thanks,
Greg

Hmmm, seems to be this problem:
http://www.instant-registry-fixes.org/why-do-i-keep-receiving-msvcr80dll-missing-errors/.
I'm not aware of it cropping it up with ggobi before though. What
version of windows are you using?

I've continued to tinker with this on my system. I found references in the
ggobi archive that pointed to a conflict with MATLAB paths in the Windows
PATH environment variable. I tried putting the GTK2-Runtime and ggobi paths
in front of the MATLAB paths, but this did not solve the problem. After all
possible sequences, only removing the MATLAB paths from the PATH variable
did ggobi launch without throwing errors. Oddly, MATLAB launches without
complaint too. So now I'm wondering what effect the deleted MATLAB path
strings have on it (another support forum!).

I also ran a search on my system for all instances of msvcr80.dll. I found
four instances in the WinSxS (side-by-side) folder (as you point out in your
link below). It seems to me that ggobi runtime is making some assumptions
about what and where Windows/GTK DLLs are stored. And unfortunately on
systems with MATLAB, the assumptions run into conflicts. Windows DLL Hell is
still alive...

BTW: I ended up downloading gtk2-runtime-2.16.6-2009-12-01-ash.exe from
SourceForge and this seems to be running fine with ggobi 2.1.8.

Thanks for all your help,
Greg
