GangaWatch attempts to keep an eye on Ganga basin in the Himalayan watershed. It analyses information flow about the basin which is crucial to saving Ganga from the greed of myopic society and institutions. GangaWatch holds that whenever there is conflict between survival of Ganga and wealth creation former must get priority and Ganga being a living entity its ecological integrity must be restored. It disapproves of a grossly inanimate and materialistic conception of Ganga. It appeals to sons and daughters of Ganga to join the peoples movement to save Ganga from the cannibalistic propensity of companies, governments, political parties, NGOs and the apathy of residents of Ganga basin. Ganga's legal and legitimate right over its own water, sand and aquatic life must be recognized. GangaWatch does not approve of the imitation of the western conception of carrying capacity for exploitation of natural resources which externalizes costs of exploitation. It holds that Ganga is not the property of any country or any generation. Ganga's survival is required for inter-generational equity. It is historically, civilizationally, ecologically and geographically independent. Ganga Bachao Samiti (Ganga Protection Committee) has been formed to devise action plans to resist assault on Ganga's integrity.
