BruteBenchmark - simple, fast and relevant methods to check, save (and later compare) the performance of a processor, video card and hard disk. Two-three relatively simple, but of real office/scientific application interest, tests are performed for each hardware category and a benchmark result is computed.
Accurate and of real interest scores can be obtained quickly (arround 30 seconds are enough), not being necessary to wait for minutes and minutes again to get the results.
BruteBenchmark is freeware.
This benchmark was designed so that it can be run on all Windows family operating systems (9x, Me, NT3.5, NT4, 2000, XP).

Default Programs Editor is a powerful file association utility for Windows.
It is a context menu editor, an autoplay editor, and default programs association editor; essentially, the settings in the "Default Programs" Control Panel page. It's a replacement for the "File Types" dialog in Windows XP, and brings some key features of TweakUI to Windows Vista/7.

This FREE utility allows you to defragment files in just a couple of mouse clicks in Windows Explorer. DefragMentor Lite implements a friendly user interface and contains a boot-time component, which allows defragmenting system files (e.g. registry and paging files) when the computer is booting up.
Even if you defragment the entire disk on a regular basis, some frequently changed files become fragmented long before the next launch of disk defragmenter. So you can use DefragMentor Lite to optimize placement of individual files thus reducing access time and improving overall performance of your system. Database files of any kind (especially large ones) are the best example of what DefragMentor Lite can optimize.
Due to the fact that some files are always locked by the operation system (e.g. registry and paging files), you cannot defragment them while the system is up and running. The Boot-Time Defragmenting feature of DefragMentor Lite allows you to defragment files of this kind during the system boot process before files get locked. Obviously, you have to reboot the system from time to time in order to give DefragMentor Lite a chance to run at boot-time.
DefragMentor Lite uses native Windows defragmentation routines and does not access the disk directly. When trying to optimize a target file DefragMentor Lite does not affect other files on the disk. Therefore, DefragMentor Lite is quite safe and cannot break the consistency of the disk data structure.
DefragMentor Lite can be installed on any computer running Windows 2003, Windows XP or Windows 2000. If you want to use the product with Windows NT 4.0 make sure Service Pack 2 and Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher are installed.
With DefragMentor Lite you can defragment files on disks formatted in FAT, FAT32 and NTFS file systems with cluster size less than or equal to 4K.
To use DefragMentor Lite you must be a member of local Administrators group on the computer where the product is installed.

DefragNT - presents the user with many options for disk defragmenting (including various file sorting criterias) and many informations about the opened partition. It is a visual-rich tool which will even allow you moving a specific portion of a specific file to a specific location.
Compatibility: Only OS-es built on the NT kernel newer than 3.5 are supported. FAT partition support for Windows NT4, Windows 2000, Windows XP and newer; NTFS partitions supported only beginning with Windows XP.
The name of this utility might change to DefragXP.
Data safety: File cluster moving is handled exclusively by the NT operating system; DefragNT does not install a custom NT service nor communicate directly with the disk drive. DefragNT is very data-safe.

Smereka is a freeware program that allows you to organize your data in an hierarchical, searchable database stored in a single file.
Your files and notes can be stored in a single file - Smereka database. This file is being indexed on the fly, so you can search your information items as soon as they are added to the database. All information items - files, notes and even folders - can be tagged to create "alternative hierarchy".
Extending searching capabilities of "Smereka" is the hierarchical system of item storage (in a tree). This allows you to sort your items into a tree-like structure. You can move, copy items from branch to branch, assign icons to them and more.
Your information (text, offline webpages) appear on the screan instantly, as soon as you click a tree item - you do not need to run an external program in most cases.
And of course, you can share the database. Having received a single file, your peer may instantly browse all the array of your data, search it or export information items to disk.

TrID is an utility designed to identify file types from their binary signatures. While there are similar utilities with hard coded rules, TriID has no such rules. Instead, it is extensible and can be trained to recognize new formats in a fast and automatic way.
TrID has many uses: identify what kind of file was sent to you via e-mail, aid in forensic analysis, support in file recovery, etc.
TrID uses a database of definitions which describe recurring patterns for supported file types. As this is subject to very frequent update, it's made available as a separate package. Just download both TrID and this archive and unpack in the same folder.
Because TrID uses an expandable database it will never be out of date. As new file types become available you can run the scan module against them and help keep the program up to date. Other people around the world will be doing the same thing making the database a dynamic and living thing. If you have special file formats that only you use, you can also add them to your local database, making their identification easier.
To get you started, the current library of definitions is up to 3887 file types and growing fast.
TRIDNet is the GUI version of TrID, probably more practical to use than the CLI version, especially for those not very familiar with the command line prompt.
TrID is free for personal / non commercial use.

TriDComm is a freeware 3D file manager and a 3D trace router for Windows.
TriDComm has a pair of Norton-Commander-style listing windows, all of the ususal file and directory folder icons are rendered as three dimensional objects. File types are indicated by distinctive shapes, and the third dimension of the objects (z-axis) represent the file/directory size. At the base of each object is the file detail material: name, size, moddate and attributes. The app supports the usual file manager controls (directory tree, copy, move, rename, view file, hexview file, view graphic file, edit file, delete file, compare files, find file, make directory) network drive mapping/unmapping and zip file handling.
It uses the mouse along with the Ctrl and Alt keys to navigate around in the 3D space provided (pan, zoom and rotate). And you are even given control over background color etc.
Version 1.4 also includes 3D icons, 3D trace route, 3D ping, private chat and an FTP server.
You need openGL, Win9x / ME / NT4 / 2k / XP and a decent PC and/or a 3D accelerator card for acceptable performance.

In addition, with a simple double click, it have the ability to display a series of information about every match listed: the definition's file name, its author & e-mail address (if provided), a clickable link to a reference URL, remarks, etc.
At the moment TrIDNet is able to load only the filetype's definitions in XML format.
N.B. The .NET Framework is required.
