The exciting announcement today, January 10, 2008, by Dr. Sanjay Gupta (CNN) and BBC Health article re amazing improvement occurring within 10 minutes after injection into spinal column (cervical) of Etanercept, sounds like "major progress" re helping Alzheimers' patients. I say, Etanercept/Enbrel appears to be yet another way of "reducing the numbers" and also, the length of time Alzheimers' patients spend in nursing homes. We know there are many reports of heart problems and deaths associated with other arthritis medications such as Celebrex.
If the information below re side effects isn't bad enough, consider the potential additional adverse effects that may occur if the patient sleeps close to electric or gas meters, electric clocks, monitors, transformers for cordless phones, charging cell phones and also high frequencies on electrical wiring and currents on waterpipes that may be close to bed? Also synergystic effects of working on computers for hours at a time, WiFi as well as close exposures to telecommunications antennae, radio tower and high voltage powerlines!!!
When is Big Pharma going to deal with what is most likely happening in "real-life situations?"
Line up for the meds -- I wonder what song the commercials will play re side effects of Enbrel (if a commercial isn't already on the airwaves re arthritis.....)? It seems they think we are so ignorant that we willingly become guinea pigs if an actor or actress in a calm voice, "sing-songs" the "very serious adverse effects" of medications. Memories of the pleasant background music and pretty scenery, they think, will surely linger and "calm our fears" as we rush to the doctor and request a prescription for the "legal poison."
I have not verified the accuracy of available information re side effects of Enbrel (Etanercept) but the details on the personal injury lawyer referral website (weblink below) -- as follows, is as alarming, if not more so, than what has been announced recently regarding other arthritis medications:

Although the FDA approved Enbrel in November 1998 and has been widely
touted as a wonder drug, it is a potentially dangerous product. The
drug is linked to dangerous infections and sepsis. The FDA reported
that at least six people taking Enbrel have died and some thirty
others have been hospitalized with infections.
Enbrel reduces the actions of chemicals in the body that are involved in the immune and inflammatory responses. Specifically Enbrel inhibits the action of tumor necrosis factor, part of the body's natural defense against serious infection. Enbrel is injected into patients twice a week and many have reported positive response to arthritis symptoms, but many have experienced serious infections, nervous system disorders, seizures, blood disorders, tuberculosis and death.
In January 2002 the FDA issued new warnings about serious nervous system side effects related to Enbrel.

I have an Exelon patch (for Alzheimers) on a shelf in our cupboard. Bud's neurologist gave it to me during our appointment in November. I determined the side effects of using the patch -- some of which are permanent, are so serious that it would be tantamount to "deliberate assault," if not "torture," to place this patch on my husband's body. I fail to see how society can justify using medications that have not been studied re "real-world EMF/EMR exposures!!!" I compare the administration of medications known to cause such serious health problems -- particularly with the knowledge that EMF/EMR close, chronic prolonged nighttime exposures reduce melatonin levels that, in turn, promote decline in immune function, thereby predisposing the patient to infections even without combining medications that are linked to infection and/or neurological changes, etc. -- to administering arsenic every night before bed.........!!!!

[ One of major concern is possible urinary tract obstruction....another is seizures and fact that the precautions mention Alzheimers itself may cause seizures. As I have mentioned in the past, It is interesting that we aren't hearing more about electromagnetic stimulation as potential help re Alzheimers considering the links to autism, Alzheimers and other health problems, to low levels of melatonin. Not enough profit in equipment similar too or the same as a TENS unit ....or whatever the product used to promote bone growth? Or, wouldn't use of an EMF product be as effective re "population control?!!!"
