Most of the FOSSians are expected to participate in it. It will be
conducted by Mr Swapan Purkait from IIT Kharagpur.

Kindly refrain from posting such things, that too to a F/OSS mailing list!
There is nothing called 'Anti-hacking'. In the F/OSS circles, hacking
is considered an art, and hackers are programmers who pursue
programming with a great passion.

I did not know. Actually as per government of Nepal, the term '
Hacking' is and illegal. and so We put is as Anti- Hacking. Its
bascially Vulnerability Test. FOSS nepal group is a part of Organizing
Committe of Technomania 2010.
Please guide us in future also.
Thanking you.

I am not associated with FOSS Nepal in any administrative/evangelical
purpose; I am just a member and mailing list subscriber. However, I do
want to point out about what you had to say. I prefer opensource
programming over a closed one. Having said that, I agree with Shakthi
Kannan in that the term "Hacking" is referred to as an art, a passion
for developing code. "Cracking" is probably the derogatory term you're
after.
Although penetration testers today are referred to as hacker, the term
has only recently seen an upsurge (late 80's to today think). Prior to
that or around that period, hacking was considered part of a software
development skill which mere mortals would have to work hard to attend
to. It's connotation is still widely prevalent in commercial software
development and OSS circle around the world and using such word to
mean "cracking" has negative connotation towards what they do. Though
there's a catch - sometimes, they mean entirely different thing for
e.g., a "hackjob" - a quick and dirty solution to a problem etc. ;-)

I am not not defining the term. Google is such as wonderful search
engine ;-) Maybe you are the one that's _implying_ that I am defining
the term. You are clearly wrong sire.

Can you kindly expound on what you mean perhaps with a little bit more
word next time cause i don't really understand what you mean above :)
A few random thoughts:
Script-kiddies are very different compared to pentesters. Pentesters
are basically the people who perform vulnerability assessments of some
arbitrary service infrastructures; be it social vulnerability,
network, OS etc... To my understanding, they perform those tasks under
clear guidance and in accordance to the laws of jurisdiction or the
company they are assesing; On the other hand, script kiddies or
freeloaders are the ones who download and/or may patch few stuffs here
and ther; then do stuffs illegitimately. To that end, i believe you
are comparing two stuffs that are related only in that they are
involved with penetrating a network or breaking into things..
Coming to the point now, no i don't think it's not fine to label
hackers as "people who do nasty shit"; and yes it's shameful some
people follow blindly to the media's perception of who or who isn't
considered a 'hacker'; it's sad but it's true.
