This will only work if he has access to the firewall machine and he has the administrative credentials. Moreover, since the firewall is FORTIGATE, iptables will not work on it.

Most of the organization blocking websites including social networking and proxy sites are dictated by their IT policy. Hence the system administrators apply firewall rules to block them. In this scenario, it's hard to negotiate with the system administrator to allow those sites, or to bypass the IP. It's true that the list of proxy sites are overwhelming, and no system administrator shall be able to block all of them manually, but there are community efforts to enlist site groups and maintain such lists, so in that case much of the sites can be blocked.

just use https rather than http for browsing the FB...
just type https://www.facebook.com and use FB.
Just test it...bro...
It might make your life easy.

Hello Dilip,
Facebook is banned in our office too. And i have used it under the banned conditions too using proxy. Maybe it could be risky sometimes.
If you are using firefox or chromium then i know the right way for you. I am sure it will work for others too.. but i havent tried.
For firefox: Go to Edit-->preferences and under the Advanced tab there is a sub-tab called Network. Click on Settings and on the settings window check the "manual proxy settings". Go to this link:

then under the ip address coloumn you can see something like 210.12.34.56:8080 etc..
paste the numbers before ':' in the HTTP Proxy space and numbers after ':' in the Port space . Click OK. And try to browse Facebook.. you will succeed.
Chromium: Click on Customize and control chromium.---> Options--->Under the hood--->Change Proxy Settings
and follow the previous instructions of pasting numbers (IP and Port) as before
If you cant work out that with this much help then ........
And reminder once again that it is illegal to break rules of your employers. And why to spend you precious time in Facebook?
Its Ok to chat with friends in face book for some time.. but commenting nonsense and playing nonsense games in facebook totally ruins ones time than waiting for hrs to download a linux distro.
