Dear fossians,
On behalf of FOSS Nepal Community, I would like to invite you all in "D2Hawkeye Services Software Freedom Day 2009". The theme for this year event is "FOSS for Enterprise ". The program will take place at Yalamaya kendra, Patandhoka on Septamber 19, 2009 (Saturday) from 9:00 am
to 5:00 pm.
Software Freedom Day (SFD) is a worldwide celebration of Free and Open Source
Software (FOSS). Our goal in this celebration is to educate the whole public
about of the benefits of using high quality FOSS in education, in government,
at home, and in business -- in short, everywhere! The events that will take place are:
Open Enterprises, Open Space (Come - Sit - discuss)
Satasat GB: get some movies or distros
OSCN project showcase
Free DocumentaryShow
Signature Campaign
Open Enterprises Demo
TuxDance
FOSSials
FOSS Quiz
Games on GNU/Linux
Presentations from FOSS Enthusiast
FREE CD/DVDs and many many more
I didn't consider FOSS Nepal to be an INGO style body when I first
involved with it. So, if I am not satisfied, I will choose to discuss
it through mailing lists and other open communication channels that
exist. And as far as 'not-coming-forward' when called is concerned,
not all volunteers can always manage time for all activities. This
should not be taken as a measurement one's right to express
dissatisfaction. Moreover, I have read the Concept Note and never
found anything that even suggested allowing to rename the event's name
in favor of the Prime Sponsor. Software Freedom Day is an
international celebration of free software and it should remain that
way.
I'd rather discuss it in a separate thread.

The only reason I believe this discussion is happening in the first
place is because of D2H's name in the title of the even. My suggestion
is to have it under Gold Sponsor / Sponsored by: D2Hawke and keep the
event title as it should be :-)
Lot of free software meetups/events such as OSDC, Linux.conf.au, UDC
etc.. are sponsored by commercial companies(Google, Redhat etc..) yet
their name never appear on the title of the event itself because they
are exactly that - a sponsor; no more or no less ;-) and the event
serves a purpose to those organisation by making their name visible
and more marketable.
Suffice it to say they do get the visibility, credit and a name for
themselves by having it under Gold / Silver / Bronze sponsors. Let the
title remain intact (i.e., Software Freedom Day Nepal) because it is
exactly that; a celebration of free software; not a commercial one.
:-) Lastly, I believe free software isn't just about a libre software.
It's a community, a mindset that has to be honoured with time.
