I wish we could post pictures (maybe files e.g. JPEGs? PNGs?) in Google Groups

I want to draw some FBP diagrams and see FBP diagrams of others. I
might want to share code I write. Maybe see other's code if they want
to share it.

It would be nice if we can do it within the Google Groups format. I
don't know how, don't see how.

Flow Based Programming is well-expressed in diagrams. And might be
nice to be able to attach code samples of FBP implementation examples,
attempts, or whatever.

What options do we have to swap visuals and code samples? Anything
built into Google Groups? Anything practical?

Here I test <br /> HTML. If HTML <br /> works, then <br /> this
paragraph <br /> will be on <br /> 6 lines.

So, I see HTML does not work here. Could have been useful to present
tables.

You can simply put a jpg file or png file up on some web site, and
reference its URL - e.g. http://www.jpaulmorrison.com/fbp/image010.jpg
. Is that good enough for now?

I was thinking about the idea of putting pictures on a site and putting the link in a post to this group. Now, here... this looks like a way members of this group could each have a free site, at this link:

http://www.google.com/sites/help/intl/en/overview.html

But then, in the process of exploring this idea, I switched to the New Google Groups. This is the first time I tried replying to a post in the New Google Groups.

When I clicked on "reply", I was surprised. A very different editor opened up. I see an option to "Attach a file". That is ideal for sharing code!

Wow!I can even change fonts and sizes.

I see an option to insert a picture and change the text background color.

I wonder what the Quote option does.
Well
we see above what the Quote option does.

I did not know all this was
possible
to do in Google Groups.

Centering, left and right justify....

Now I think I discovered what I wanted.

The whole key seems to be just switching to the New Google Groups interface. You have to find some link in the Regular Google Groups that says New Google Groups, or something like that. And then--I forget exactly where--there was something else to click on to make New Google Groups my default view.

I'm going to post this. Then I will switch back to the Regular Google Groups to see whether all this is seen there. Then, I think I will switch back to the New Google Groups.

This is a real serendipity. Seems by accident, I discovered exactly what I wished was available. So, it IS available after all.

Okay, now I post and see the results.

Well, in the Regular Google Groups you cannot see any of the fancy formatting.

I uploaded a JPEG as an attachment. The JPEG points out where to find the New Google Groups.

You go to your Google Groups home page, the page that shows all the Google Groups in which you are a member. Around the top middle of the page, you see "new Google Groups". You click on the link and you are now in New Google Groups.

So, now I am going to post this and go back to the Regular Google Groups again. I will see whether the attachment is seen in the Regular Google Groups.

Where is New Google Groups.jpg

Hey! Great! You can see my attachment from the Regular Google Groups.

Paul Morrison. You have a great platform for Flow Based Programming in Google Groups--especially the New Google Groups.

Interesting. I didn't know about "New Google Groups". I have started using it now.
Is there any way to set it as default?
Each time I have to press the button: "View this group in the new Google Groups" from the right of the panel.

Setting New Google Groups as default:

When already in New Google Groups, click on the word "Home" in the upper left area of the page. Then you see in the upper right "Switch to the new Groups".

This is counter-intuitive because you already clicked on something, "...New Google Groups" and you can see you are already in New Google Groups. So clicking on something that says "Switch to New Groups", seems so superfluous. However, hovering the mouse over the "Switch to New Groups" brings up a tool-hints popup that explains that this will make New Groups the default.

When you click on it, it goes away and a new link appears around top-center and under "Welcome to the new Google Groups". This link allows you to go back to the old version. We probably still need the old version for some functionality that is not yet in the new version. I don't know what functionality is missing. However, "Help" (found after clicking the gear-wheel in the upper right) says "Most all administration-style tasks are still completed using the original Google Groups interface."

So, to access all functionality, I guess we need both the old and the new.

Ralf Westphal, your post is the kind I was hoping for in this discussion. I did not know about the useful cacoo tool. Free, too.
