Hi ,

Some of our clients who started to develop new projects , they are not adopting Flex ,instead they are moving to HTML 5/JQuery/WebDynpro(for SAP app).No support in iPhone/iPad forced them to leave this technology.Perfomance & High maintance cost is also a criteria.

Will Flash/Flex die? How Adobe is addressing this issue?

Thanks,
Mathew

Nope, I don't think so...flex is way ahead then html 5 and other
technology, atleast 5 yrs ahead. As far as flex in apple goes, sooner
or later they will officially start allowing flash/flex apps in
ipad/ipod/iphone. For tthe time being watch the video where a adobe
evangelist builds a flex app with push feature and integrates with
ipad and itouch. Type "flex in ipad by christopher" in google. I am in
my BB , so can't ppost u the link. Take it easy dude!

Hi Saurav,

I watched this video earlier from his blog.
But the real issue is if Adobe is lagging the issue , more projects will be moving and it will be hard to get projects. Flex experts in the organizations will be forced to learn and work on other technologies. Its all about organization business and individual growth. So people will be looking to other options.
So Adobe need to address it immediately.

Thanks.

Hi Guys,

In the last week I had a similar experience and a new project that was bagged technically they have opted for HTML 5 over Flex to support on Apple products.

I am afraid more and more projects like this will move to other technologies from Flex if the decision to start allowing Flash apps on apple products does not come soon.

Thanks,
Naveen

Hi Mathew,

I think the below links will be enough for a developer to get ideas

Guys,

I am sure as technology enthusiasts we love to debate around the
merits of different technologies, but the debates looses the meaning
and direction if we discuss things before getting to the know the
reality. It is very important to get to know the roots of the
capabilities of both technologies before firing shots at each other.
Please look at this pdf
http://help.adobe.com/en_US/as3/mobile/flashplatform_optimizing_content.pdf
before forming judgements around the flash player capabilities, things
like bitmap manipulations at run time, text anti aliasing are some of
the examples where flash excels. I still personally feel that it is
hard to create or produce same rich experiences with
HTML5/Javascript/CSS3 with the current toolsets available. Flash
platform as a whole has a range of tools that will help you build
these experiences in less time and effort. The browser support for
HTML5 is still unclear. That being said, HTML5 is good for the web,
for us developers, because it is an extension of HTML and the web
would still leverage these technologies and I see them both co-exist.
Did we ever fought on HTML(4.1) vs Flash? I would suggest each one of
you to take it easy and keep loving flex/flash as you do, and at the
same time understand and learn more about HTML5 and leverage them both
to create some awesome applications and experiences.

Thank you,
Saurabh

Flash/ flex builder never die, HTML5/CSS3 is just in embryonic stage, lots of  features not available in  technology you mention.

Adobe is master in  imaging and designing.

Instead of debating on all of these technologies.. It is better to keep updated yourself in and around of each of these technologies..

Hello Mathew,

I am also afraid... because in last January I have been appointed in a big CCM L5 organization as a flex UI developer but still now I have no work on this technology, management told me currently they don't have any flex project in their hand so I have to work on HTML and CSS part for last 3 months.

:(

Sonali,

First understand different things of the Technologies.

* If your company / organization doesn't give you any Flex project, it is not meant that the Technology is going to die.

* Moreover it depends on the Client's need and requirement. You cannot simply say "We don't have a project / work in Flex"..

Adobe is taking Flash Platform and HTML 5 / CSS 3 into the new arena. Wait and watch their amazing innovations.

The below page is one sample of it..

All I can say is, leverage the available technology. You will get the right team to play with it.

I would say below are the excellent references,

I hope you would get cleared. ;)

Happy Flexing ..

Technology never dies. Its just phase come when it is on the top and
after that it comes to a certain level.Adobe always gives everything
to its developers/designers which they did by working on
wallaby(awesome product but in beta). So dont worry just enjoy until
you are working on it..

These days Intranet application are becoming more popular on Flex.so
everytime the requirements are changing..

Hi,

No one is going to decide what is better - website or RIA. But there are two separate questions: 1) what is best choice for website? and 2) what is best choice for RIA?

As Flex will never be good choice for site construction - too heavy for site body, so HTML5 will never be good choice for "fat" client (RIA) with rich dynamic and interactive graphics

Thanks
Bambam
