I never had any problems with add-ons on Firefox, but with Firebug
1.3.2 I have tried several times to download it, at no avail.

It goes through the motions of installation, restarting Firefox, the
usual, but can't see it afterward.

I need Firebug for a course on HTML/CSS, and I don't want to use any
other text editor, as Firebug has been highly recommended to me.

I wonder if it is possible to do a manual installation of it?

I'd appreciate your help on this issue.

Thanks in advance for your answer.

Hi Hamid,

I had the same problem until I did a COMPLETE uninstall of firefox and
a reinstall. You should export your bookmarks and or other data to
another file. After installing firefox you can import the bookmarks,
after you install firebug. Then get out of the firefox and get back in
and you should see the bug in the lower right corner.

You can use the profile manager and set up a seperate profile and add
the firebug to that profile but that is a whole can of worms in
itself. Easier to completely uninstall and reinstall. Make sure that
there are no subdirectories left in the mozilla firefox directory
where you originally installed firefox.

Good Luck.

For future reference, uninstall and reinstall is not usually needed.
The configuration files are not changed by uninstall or by reinstall,
and mostly the odd problems of Firebug are related to the
configuration. So you need a new configuration. To get one, create a
new profile.

Other people have advised you on how to get it installed. But I am
concerned that you talk about a 'text editor'. Was that just a
mistake, or do you think that Firebug will let you edit your files? It
won't: it is a debugger, not an editor.

I keep getting this:
Firefox could not install the file at

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/downloads/latest/1843

because: Invalid file hash (possible download corruption)
-261

Clean download of FF 3.0.6 immediate first thing without doing
anything is: go to add-ons page and get firebug 1.3.2 and keep getting
this.
Help is appreciated,
Luke

I'm getting this error on two different machines even. Any help would
be appreciated.

Hello,

I got it working by clicking this link...
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/downloads/file/30423/firebug-1.2.0b3-fx.xpi
it installed firebug 1.3.3.

later,

I heard from one user that was running on VMWare and failed with the
Invalid file hash (possible download corruption)
-261. This was a new install, so Firebug was not involved, only
Firefox and addons.mozilla.org. His workaround was to save-as then
install from file system, worked.

Yes if you save the XPI file to your local file system and then just drag and drop it onto a Firefox window it starts installing.

Thank you very much for your help.

It did work uninstalling it, and it didn't work creating a new
profile, which was the first route I chose, to learn it.

Firebug didn't like the new profile, so I did a complete uninstall
with "Total Uninstall," which erases registry files for the
uninstalled application.

Before uninstalling, I downloaded Firefox to install it later.

I saved my bookmarks, uninstalled with "Total Uninstall," did a
registry clean up with "TuneUp Utilities 2009," and restarted, just to
make sure.

Gratefully,

Hamid
