Hello,

I was just wondering if there is a way to provide include files that
the user can edit like a standard farcry HTML page? Essentially I need
the content of one page included in another, where the main page is
dynamic and the included page text can be updated when required by the
user. At the moment I am just using a container with a text rule which
has fairly limited functionality.

Try a container with a hand picked rule and use the dmHTML type. Or, search
my blog on snippets (http://jake.cfwebtools.com). Basically it's the same
thing but there's a custom rule for it which makes it a bit easier to
manage.

Hi Jake,

I had started to go down the path of creating a navigation node
outside of the Home tree (so it doesnt appear in nav), with various
HTML pages for the user to edit. I would then create a Handpicked rule
for the HTML page, which had a custom display type that would only
output the body information only.

I think the snippets is a good idea and a better solution as the
content doesnt get muddled with the rest of the site, and the user
cant mess up the display type when they're editing.

I'm in the process of implementing it now, so hopefully it will all go
okay...

Thanks for your help!

I am running 4.0.9

When adding a news item, there is no way to add a nested news
category. News Category options only allow me to select root.

Any suggestions?

thanks,
elaine

You can't add categories from within the news item, you have to do it from Manage Keywords (I think it's in Content Utilities).

You are misunderstanding my post. I know you can add categories under content utilities > manage keywords. That is not what I am trying to do.

What i am saying is USING these categories.

For example,
1. make a new news item
2. on the 'General Details' page, in the section Categorisation, you select the News Category. The interface is not displaying the categories that were previously setup under manage keywords. It only displays root.

This worked fine in the previous versions, but is not working in 4.0.9

I've seen an intermittent problem in FC 3 (which is what I still use most).  The problem ended up being an inconsistency in the nestedTreeObjects table and the javascript tree.  I think I've heard mention of a scrapping of the javascript tree in future releases.  Under Admin -> COAPI Management there is a link for "Reattach Orphan Categories".  You might try that utility which is supposed to fix inconsistencies in the nestedtreeobjects table.

Good Luck!

This didn't work. I just checked the category check box for other content items (ie, regular site items) - and it doesn't work there either. I have a feeling it is a problem with the new ajax interface. That it is not displaying the child nodes.

If anyone else has any ideas, I would appreciate it.

Does the Flex UI for category management work?

1. I can create categories through: Content Tab > Category Management
> Manage Keywords. This works fine
2. cannot make categories through the Flex interface. Error: Unable
to invoke CFC- Could not find the ColdFusion Component or interface
farcry.farcry.flexCategory.

I cannot use the categories I have created via method 1 anywhere all
the website. There are no branches. It only displays root.

thanks,
elaine

Is anyone else experiencing this issue? I just setup another clean
install Farcry 4.09 and it has the same issue.

These are setup on linux. If others are NOT experiencing this, I will
assume it has something to do with case-sensitivity again - and will
debugging in that direction.

thanks,
elaine

Hi,

I have exactly the same problem and I'm on windows/IIS.

The keywords Management UI works in html and Flex. I have activated
the CF debug mode to compare the sql queries in the keywords UI and in
the categorisation tab.

In the UI we have:
SELECT * FROM nested_tree_objects
WHERE nlevel = 0
AND typename = 'categories'

then:

SELECT nleft, nright, typename, nlevel
FROM nested_tree_objects
where objectid = 'D4A352DA-3FFF-AEA2-3879AD198B6F17A9'

where objectid is the root then:

SELECT
ntm.objectid,ntm.parentid,ntm.typename,ntm.nleft,ntm.nright,ntm.nlevel,ntm.ObjectName
FROM nested_tree_objects ntm
INNER JOIN categories t ON t.categoryid = ntm.objectid
AND ntm.nleft > 1
AND ntm.nleft <12
AND ntm.typename = 'categories'
ORDER BY ntm.nleft

which return the list of the categories.

In the edit categorisation tab, I only have this:
SELECT cat.categoryID
FROM categories cat,refCategories ref
WHERE cat.categoryID = ref.categoryID
AND ref.objectID = 'EE2E7666-3FFF-AEA2-3E07BBF062A2C4B3'

which get the categories of the current object and, more interesting:

SELECT objectname
FROM nested_tree_objects
WHERE objectid = 'D4A352DA-3FFF-AEA2-3879AD198B6F17A9'
AND typename = 'categories'

which only return root, but I suppose that's the buggy thing.

Any idea ?

Thanks

Pv
