Etherpad developers & community:

Hi! I'm wondering whether you'll be applying to participate in Google
Summer of Code this year! I saw in a previous discussion

https://groups.google.com/group/etherpad-open-source-discuss/browse_thread/thread/ebfa045c3f2c3732/e0d2d264bf84445e

that you were interested in becoming a mentoring organization for this
summer, via either Etherpad Foundation or the Software Freedom
Conservancy; do you think that'll happen?

One possible project for a GSoC student: a MediaWiki plugin per
https://github.com/ether/pad/issuesearch?state=open&q=mediawiki#issue/187 ,
or having Etherpad instances support MediaWiki auth.

Best,

Carol Smith responsible for gsoc wrote on the mentor mailing list:

"Per some feedback from the mentor summit last year, I've decided to
encourage and accept more small and new mentoring organizations this
year. In tandem with more organizations, "

that sounds to me like a partime project because of worktime needed by
fullwork of 2 months (8h/day)

may be refactoring of auth, make it configurable, add openid and
various others auths does.

However I wish you the best to get interesting students into this
project.

cheers

Since the application deadline closes in a few days (early in the day
on 11 March), I wanted to check in -- will Etherpad be applying?

So far I decided not to proceed in applying for GSoC for
Etherpad, but maybe development for the plugin that Sumana
mentioned could be supported by the Wikimedia Foundation?
I'm not sure how they decide what projects to fund.
