RTI activists denied cover, Sena defector to NCP gets it

Prafulla Marpakwar | TNN

Mumbai:Maharashtra home minister R R Patil refused to provide police protection to RTI activists but he was quick with a special security cover for former Shiv Sena leader Kiran Pawaskar, soon after he joined NCP. With this, Pawaskar joins a club of 25-odd politicians, who don’t hold any official post, but have been granted special security by the home department run by an NCP minister. Like Pawaskar, all those who quit Shiv Sena to join Congress or NCP have been provided special security cover.
Speaking to TOI, Punebased RTI activist Asim Sarode said, ‘‘There have been murderous attacks on RTI activists in Maharashtra. They have been asking for police protection, but the home department hasn’t responded.’’
Instead of whistleblowers seeking security cover, the home department should identify RTI activists facing threat. ‘‘Home department has adequate manpower and intelligence network. It should find out the whistleblowers in trouble and provide them security,’’ Sarode said. But that’s not happening. The home department is more concerned with the security of political leaders it seems.

In our cotinued persue the DopT replied as that CS were directed to give all necessary steps.

So the Maharashtra RTI Activist may appraise this.

We are faced with the dirty fact of India that the government machinery whose custodians we make after voting, is misused by the same custodians.

Again and again, in every election, we repeat the same process. it is going on for the last sixty years and God know when it will end.

Practically we do not possess any voting power. It is the poor and illiterate who do.  But we do have knowledge of the government and the constitution of India. I believe still that an educated and bold brain is enough to shake the society.

DF should raise sufficient funds from its members to challenge such acts in the SC. I would like to know how many of DF will come out in open support to any member who is threatened due to his or her RTI.

Because only a rang de basanti team can initiate the revolutionof cleansing the politics.Urban middle class or the product of public schools is not fit to start.only if this cud initiate from our unemployed educated youth of villages.Alternatively the senior citizens take active lead and the best example will be 100% self draw of pending societies.
