I'm experimenting with a text annotation system using disqus. For the
purpose
I could have used a database, but I think it was a cool idea to use
the
web. Each word has its own URI corresponding to a disqus thread (but,
note,
there won't be that many footnotes, I hope).

You can investigate it on http://sigfrid-lundberg.se/footnotes/ (To
activate
it, click on "Show anchors", than on any asterisk '*' appearing at
annotation
anchor positions, which will open the disqus form in an iframe in the
midst of
the text).

1. Do you disqus people don't see this as abuse of your software?

2. I also have a problem. The disqus form delivers content to your
server, but
the result doesn't seem to reach the client. It doesn't matter, but
it
might be confusing to users. Doesn't disqus like being iframed?

Hi Sigfrid,

The theme you are using is an older one which refreshes the page after
a comment is posted. You may want to try the new theme "Narcissus"
which allows for the client to receive the posted comment without
reloading the page.

And no, this isn't abuse. Have fun.

Thanks for the answering.

I had the idea to use disqus_identifier rather then disqus_url and
that it would make it easier to me to retrieve the content for each
annotation anchor. Is that a good idea?

I could then perhaps get rid of the xslt-generated javascript (which I
gues would break when users enter markup) and use json instead

Yes, that should be fine.
