Chhari-Dhand finally declared Bird conservation reserve - Kutch, Gujarat

Dear all,   Finally  the Government of Gujarat had declared  Chhari-Dhand wetland as a Conservation reserve.   Indian Express and Kutchmitra (Gujarati) cuttings attached for more details.   I would like to thank all who did hard work to get this unique wetland its deserved status.   Thanks to all the efforts of Late M.K. Shri. Himmatsinhji. I wish the wetland is named as "Himmat Bird Conservation reserve"   Bombay Natural History Society  had it's field Station at Chhari-Dhand in Banni grasslands- Jan 1990-1995 Bird Migration study project (S.A. Hussain) and grassland ecology project headed by Dr. Asad Rahmani.   All the valuable pblications of BNHS had strong recommendation on conserving this weland (a proposed Ramsar Convention site - Wetland of International importance), BNHS need to be congratulated. As the publications provided the strong research basis for justifying the importance of this wetland.   30,000 Common Cranes over-winter at this wetland after a good monsoon. 32 species of Raptors can be seen here. Mr. D.V. Maheshwari of Indian Express wrote several stories on Chhari-Dhand and contributed a lot to get the Chhari-Dhand its deserved status.   Thanks to Mr. R.L. Meena (CF) and his team Jadeja, Korvadia, Gujjar, Patel and others for , Mr. Nanda, Mr. Roy Choudhary (Secretaries) for taking deep interest in Chhari-Dhand and getting it declared as a conservation reserve.   All the Bird watchers of Pelican Nature Club S.N. Varu. Naving Bapat, T.B. Chhaya, Subodh Haathi, Ashwin Pomal, I.
