Cytoscape.js 2.0.0 is now available.  It has improved performance over Cytoscape Web, built-in support for touch devices, gesture support, core extensions, UI plugins, and an intuitive API modelled after jQuery.

We will continue to support Cytoscape Web for now, but we advise users that they migrate to Cytoscape.js at their earliest opportunity.  It’s faster, more extensible, and more compatible than Cytoscape Web.

There are a few more differences between Cytoscape.js and Cytoscape Web:

  • Please note that we are currently working on porting over compound node layouts to Cytoscape.js, but you can use compound nodes with alternative layouts (like “preset”) in the interim.

  • Cytoscape.js supports PNG export instead of PDF.

  • Cytoscape.js supports loading data only via JSON.  We will eventually have separate converters for XGMML, GraphML, and SIF, though this will be a separate project not part of Cytoscape.js itself.

We are committed to continuing to improve the featureset, performance, and extensibility of Cytoscape.js.  It will be exciting to see what the next few months bring.
