I always follow your works with much interest. And like you Matt, I regret the "pollution" of our group by all these special cooperation proposals.... I think it's time to find an other way of exchanges.

Matt,

Not sure how serious you might be. I admit I begin to despair of ever
generating sustained engagement. I've been tweeting in the name of CoCo
for a few weeks now, no one else has expressed interest in helping with
that, nor do I see anything on the hastags that were discussed. Are
folks (understandably) just too tied up with their own projects?

for some reason the Coco list has always been a spam magnet.

I think this was because our first instance of the web site was on Plone and it was pounded heavily by spammers.

At one point we were getting 1200 blog spams an hour.

I've always believed quite strongly that there is something very valuable and important at the heart of cooperation studies. The challenge of realising this however, has always been in it's cross and even trans-disciplinary nature - which means that it has no 'home' as such (other than in our collective minds and on this list and site).

I guess what I'm really saying is that CoCo has no centralised locus from which it is consistently coordinated in an ongoing fashion - something like a research centre or a particular academic institution, or something of the like (at least that's the traditional way this need is usually addressed). - It's the classic need for centralised activity/persistence to draw together and coordinate the distributed efforts.

Funding is of course a usual route for this approach, and in its absence, individual commitment fills this gap (thanks Robert for yours!) - however there's just only so far this can go and last...

I personally had visions of being much more involved in various ways at different points, and then the business i started, Collabforge, started demanding more and more of my time (not to mention my kids etc). So, all my extra capacity has been sapped.

I'm not sure I have any great suggestions here (that I can reasonably back up by my own efforts) just my 2 cents. :-)...

I have been watching/reading your emails ever since I asked to be a part of this.  I think the point that Mark made about not having a centralized locus, etc. is an important one.  While I am very unaware of all of the efforts each of you have made on this project, may I humbly make a suggestion for addressing the need for a centralized locus for the group?

I am active in Second Life, both personally and professionally.  I am creating a presence for a non profit Friends of a National Wildlife Refuge on a piece of land I own in Second Life.  I am also involved in the Second Life Round Table group.  Therefore, I am wondering if any of you have considered using Second Life as a way to create a forum and place to meet for members of this group.

Just a thought - this is a very important concept/project that needs to be pursued.
