Hello all,

i'm having this problem with downloading a pdf-file from my server.
In Internet Explorer I always get the error "file does not begin with
'%PDF-'".
In Opera, and others it works fine.

I have on one computer adobe acrobat reader and on an other one, adobe
acrobat 6,0 Professional installed.

I can click on the file and choose, save target as, but that's not what my
client wants. He wants it to open in IE itself, whithout modifiyng
settings on his own computer.

On other sites, I (and he) can download PDF's perfectly.

On the server I already modified /etc/mime.types (application/pdf -->
application/x-pdf) and outcommented 0 string %PDF- application/pdf in
/etc/apache2/magic and restarted the apache-server. But whithout any help
:-/
(I read these steps somewhere on the internet, of someone with the same
probs)

Is there anyone out there who could help me?

thanx in advance

Tim

Dear Tim

we recognized this problem if someone has fullversion of Acrobat 5 and the
reader from Version 6.

The only thing which helps was to go to fullversion 6 or to remove reader
Version 6.

regards

Reimar

I have solved this issue this way :

1) httpserver:/etc/apache2 # vi mod_mime-defaults.conf

I have added those lines :
# 25/03/05 added line ( IE bug with pdf mime types )
AddType application/x-pdf .pdf

2) Then i have commented out the PDF line in the magic file
httpserver:/etc/apache2 # vi magic

It should look like this :
# Acrobat
# (due to cla...@cs.cmu.edu)
#0 string %PDF- application/pdf # 25/03/05 line commented out (
IE bug )

3) httpserver:/etc/apache2 # apache2ctl restart

HTH...

Sam

# how to solve the file does not begin with '%PDF-' problem
# resolution problem mime type pdf x-pdf with apache web server
# problem with ie internet explorer with adobe acrobat reader pdf files
