Seems like anything using the J-79, especially a pair of them, is pretty
noisy. I know the local EA-6s make a fair amount of racket, and they don't
even have afterburners.

RAF Phantoms didn't use J79s, they used Spey 202/203 turbofans, and had
somewhat larger intakes than their American cousins.

Still, musta been some motherfuckingly loud airplanes...
