I'd like to know if HoMM for Windows 95 has been released yet? If not
what is it's currect release date? Also what new features does it have
over the DOS version?
Thanks for the info!
Pete.

It was shipped to the duplicator about 2 weeks ago. It should be
showing up in stores really soon.
The Windows 95 version has a CD Audio soundtrack, Scenario Editor and
Random Scenario generator, 16 (I think) new scenarios and includes the
King's Bounty game. It also supports DirectDraw for full screen 640x480
play, or any size window.

That sounds VERY interesting. I think I may have to go out and
spring for the Windows 95 version in addition to the DOS version (it
never ran at 100% under Windows 95 anyway, unless I boot up in DOS
mode). But I would love to try the scenario editor and generator.
It's a great game--perfect for my interests.
What is the King's Bounty game?

Will there be a scenario editor released for the DOS version?
-- The random scenario generator is very flexible and allows the setting
of many different parameters. There is an option to either view the
esulting map or save it and not view it. I generated a random larhe
scenario and saved it without viewing. Played about 90 minutes and got my
butt kicked. Hmmmm!!!
-- Music is choppy during disk access. Turned off the music and the sound
effets themsleves run fine.
-- The game locked up my COM1 port. After exiting from the game, I could
not access the printer from Windows or DOS. Had to do a cold reboot to
restore COM1.
-- The AI still cheats BIG TIME. The other guys seem to have amuch faster
growth rate than a human player, still!!
-- The game played without any hint of a lock-up or any other type of
crash. Only annoying thing I've noticed so far is that the little sun-dial
cursor (used during the AI players' move) remains even after the AI has
finished. You have to move the mouse to restore the normal cursor.
Nitpicky, but annoying.,
Like to hear what others think about the new version.

Two things wrong with this:
1. It's been stated that the scenarios created won't work with
the DOS version;
2. Posting binaries here (or in any discussion-only group) would
be kinda rude.
Sorry...

BUZZ, thanks for playing, but George Rouf has said it will most certainly
work with the DOS version.

agreed.

Windows '95 has all of the properties of a virus, with the sole exception
being it hardly ever installs correctly or without intervention!
Somebody could make a homepage with a collection of scenarios.

That would be a cool idea. I just got HOMM win95 version yesterday and
looooooooove it! Still haven't completed a scenario yet.

Hmmm...I thought I heard the opposite, but a look back through
the group didn't find anything either way...
I'll have to try it.
Cool.
I'm sure FTP sites will show up...not as quickly or as commonly
as Doom WADs, but... :)

The DOS version does that, too, when the mouse is on COM2.

On higher difficulty settings the CP start with many more resources.
During the game the CP seem not to "cheat". CP heroes attack often
with insufficient forces which shows me that they don't know the
strength of my heroes. In the tactical combat the CP are wasting
their spells. "Auto-mode" is pretty bad.

The editor and the random scenario generator are the same program. It
is a Windows 95 program. There is no DOS version.

Are you playing the CD audio or the 8-bit spooled audio? The CD audio
should never skip unless the CD is scratched. :)

Weird. I am usually connected to the internet while playinf Heroes via
my modem and I've never had any problems. Has this happened more than
once?

The scenarios created work great with any version of Heroes. What do
you think we made all the maps with?

I agree that binaries posted in this group are annoying.
Yes they are,
I just purchased the "Win95" upgrade for $15. Call NWComputing and tell
them you want the Win95 upgrade CD. You will have to be a registered
user before getting the upgrade.

I take that to mean there will NOT be a DOS version of the scenario
generator in future. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Too bad, of course, having bought the DOS version, that I have to
shell out another 40 or 50 bucks for the Win95 version just to get the
scenario editor.

That makes perfect sense. It does take some CPU power to start and stop
the CD audio, but none to actually play it. It also takes some time for
the seeking and such.
The DOS version only had spooling audio, so the CPU usage should have
been fairly consistent across the board. Again it might slow down
during the seeking.
No, there will not be a DOS version of the editor. It was designed
under Windows 95, and it requires the graphic files from the Windows 95
version of the game. There is an upgrade plan available for DOS owners.
You can upgrade to the Win/95 version of Heroes of Might and Magic in
one of three ways.
1) You can send in your CD along with $15 and a request for the Win/95
version of the game.
2) If you have sent in your registration card already, you can order
by phone. Our order number is (800) 325-8898 in the US or
(818) 734-7136 from outside the US.
3) You can send in the certificate for a second CD, that comes in the
box, along with a check or money order for $15 and a request for the
Win/95 version of the game.
If you have already gotten your second CD you will have to take
advantage of option number one.
Talk to you later,
George

Thank you. That sound like a much better option.
