If operating strictly off of floppies, the danger of virus infection is
nearly zero. I know of almost no viruses for the Apple ][; the only one I
know of is one that puts a viral form of DOS 3.3 onto any disk it
encounters. As near as I can tell, this particular virus is benign,
except that it changes the DISK VOLUME header.
It's easy to get rid of, too, by just copying a clean DOS off of another disk.

Since the vast majority of ]['s are floppy-based, Apple ][ viruses are rare.

my wife is a librarian at a school that got some free apple II e's

What kind of danger of virii is there? Should she get some virus
protection? As usual, she has a budget of 0 allocated for software
in education.

Someone might suggest some good free or low cost pd software they could
use too. This is a k-8 school.

thanks,

nick kline

Ummmm, actually, there are two ProDOS 8-based viruses: Festering Hate and
CyberAIDS. They hide in SYS files and can cause massive damage. There are
programs out there that deal with this, though.
