Hello all,

[For those who don't know what pool.ntp.org is: go to
<http://www.pool.ntp.org>]

Starting tomorrow morning, I will essentially stop maintaining the
pool.ntp.org project. Ask Bjørn Hansen has stepped forward to pick up
the pieces, and I wish him good luck and hope he can continue the
project successfully.

At this moment, the project has 363 servers, with two servers in new
countries (Romania and Thailand) being the latest additions. The
timekeepers mailing list has 139 subscribers, the timekeepers-announce
list 256; several projects use pool.ntp.org as their default
timeserver, I know of Debian, at least one of the free BSDs and Gentoo
(I think there were some more, but I forget.) It has been very
interesting and fun, and a big thank you goes to all who helped (too
many to name them all - you know who you are.)

Users of the pool.ntp.org servers don't need to do anything, people who
donated servers will not notice anything either, so the transition
should really be easy.

Technical details: Starting immediately, the clock...@fortytwo.ch
official contact address will be handled by Ask (I'll keep on getting
copies of the mail during the transition, but this should be a short
period.) The web pages and the mailing lists will stay on my server
right now, Ask will migrate them over to a different site when it is
convenient for him to do so. I will switch the DNS servers tomorrow
morning (I'm in Europe, so fire up your timezone calculators...), so
from then Ask has full control over the pool.ntp.org domain. My DNS
server will be a secondary, and will allow zone transfers, so
configuration on the current secondaries is not urgent - Ask will
contact you and rearrange everything.

I'll, of course, stay around and am available for questions. I wish Ask
and all others good luck with the project.

Greetings from Zürich
Adrian von Bidder
