DSE XH8227 USB Wireless 802.11g
It uses the ISL3880 wireless chipset which IS supported in the 2.6.9 kernel
of my Xandros Linux 3.0 system.....as a PCI-based device. But the USB part
is not supported (yet?). (www.prism54.org)
The USB hardware support is via the NET2200 chipset.
So, fallback position was to compile and install ndiswrapper v1.0rc1
from sourceforge.net...which would let me use the WinXP drivers for this
device with Linux.
ndiswrapper 1.0rc1 compiled and installed perfectly.
The WinXP drivers in directory /drivers/2kxp from the driver CD installed
perfectly via ndiswrapper.
They also load and run perfectly...so far (6 hours ago).
The USB wireless device is up and running on the XP drivers via
ndiswrapper....and I'm using it now on Xandros 3.0 (2.6.9 stock vendor
kernel).
That was easier than I thought it would be. :-)
These USB 2.0 WLAN devices are currently NZ$98 at Dick Smiths. The device
appears to be sourced from Conexant and is rebadged.
I don't work at DSE. I just use the stuff (with Linux) and share the
information here for use now or later via Google Groups.
