Outstanding IMHO. I really appreciate his News articles but even more
enjoyable is seeing how much it pisses off the wintrolls. The fact
they have to resort to personal attacks shows just how much Roy's
articles piss them off. Its water off a ducks back to Roy thankfully.

Personal attacks?
You mean like your commentary in your *stats* messages?
By your reasoning, that must mean that the trolls are pissing YOU off.
But I'm sure they know that already.
BTW, Roy isn't pissing anyone off.
In fact he's given the trolls here an endless collection of new material
to use!
I don't see anyone leaving.
Do you?
Look at it this way, a stereotypical Linux geek who spends 24x7 re-posting
messages because he has no social life.
It's classic! And it makes for great trolling material.
I nominate Roy for the "Linux Geek Poster Boy of The Year" Award.
He is also, by virtue of the sheer number of posts, driving informative
messages right off the news servers. And if that's not enough, without him
filtered (I recommend the Shyster News Reader with the "Shysterwitch
[News] Septic System Filter. Pat. Pend." plugin) this group just appears
as a dull, News SPAMBOT and people wandering in here are going to scratch
their heads, say wtf and leave because they are not going to have to fish
through 1000's of news posts to find good information.
So dream on Roy, but don't take your own advice because it's wrong.
Yup

Not at all. I know how to use a killfile. Troll feeders piss me off
much more.

I'm glad you realise that those pissed of with Roy's posts are, in the
main, trolls. Including you of course. The personal attacks on Roy
have been indicative of how much he bothers the likes of you. Only Rex
has been subjected to venomous personal attacks on this scale.

I'll nominate him for having the stamina to post on-topic News articles
despite the personal abuse he gets from trolls such as yourself.

Utter unsubstantiated bullshit. A text newsgroup such as COLA uses a
tiny amount of resources compared to binary newsgroups. Please give a
single example of a newsfeed that has reduced article retention of
COLA since Roy started posting? Just one. I remember when 4,000+
articles per week were the norm on COLA. Compared to other text only
newsgroups like alt.atheism COLA is but a pimple on your backside.

Others have asked for a digest.
Even Kohlmann doesn't like Roy's spamming.
Personally, I use the Shysterwitch news reader with The Shysterwitch

to.

He'll flame out soon enough, but until then, he's putting on one hell of a
floor show!

Really?
You can barely search google for just about anything Linux and not have
his name come up.
Go into Google Groups for cola and see what happens.
And that's exactly what he wants.
Roy is a narcissitic, self centered persona who is full of himself and
wants everyone else to be full of him as well.
Take a look at his shrine website.
It's all very twisted.
You COLA nutsacks are being played like an out of tune banjo and you are
so caught up in what you deem *advocacy* that you haven't figured it out
yet.
But you will.

I wonder, if this "...driving informative messages right off the news
servers." is referring to the tolls crap (maybe "informative" to them, but
crap to us) being drowned by Roy S's newsposts. And is this another way of

*smile* Thanks, I'll try. No real interferences on the horizon, but the
volume will be hard to sustain when the undergrads return next week
(Freshers' Week). I need to help getting newcomers connected (my daytime

They lie, yet again. Gary does not killfile news items and neither does Erik.
They have proven it before. And yet, if I dare to have a typo in the tag,
they loudly nag. When that line of attack fails, they mention server
retention. But newsgroups servers retain by the post, not by the thread. So
the effect of my news posting is minute. But that's not what they would have
you believe. Other lies, off the top of my head: no followups as an
implication of no interest, Windows/MS-related being utterly irrelevant,
etc.
Seems as though I'll be getting in contact with some viruses (Windows) next
week. My activity in this newsgroup will be affected. Inevitably, not all
problems can be resolved remotely. No worries. I'll loosen that Windows
chastity belt. it's been accumulating dust for many months.
Best wishes,

They let you near new grads? Well, there goes all independant thoughts
for them. Ever see that Jim Carey movie "Cable Guy"? I can see it now.

Anyone who thinks UNIX is intuitive should be forced to write 5000 lines of
code using nothing but vi or emacs. AAAAACK!

Hahah!
They probably let him near the females (no danger there) but no doubt he
is under strict orders to stay out of the males dorm.
We had a graduate student like Roy when I was in college.
He was a weird computer geek type, much like Roy, who hung out in the
computing center all the time banging away on the Decwriter hammering out
code while he muttered to himself.
We called him *rickets*....

Every group has a troll like flatfish who fantasises about male dorms.

Server retention is one of the daftest arguments I've heard; we get
those guys posting several hundred messages each a month, but they
complain about server retention... if they were really worried about
that, they could stop posting :-)
The storage required for text-only groups is miniscule compared with
the binaries groups, too.

Ah, yes, it's that time of the year, isn't it?

Although golf was originally restricted to wealthy, overweight Protestants,
today it's open to anybody who owns hideous clothing.

Perhaps some others might help? I did note that we've had submissions
from one or two others - perhaps I should add some stats to the digest?

I think I might ask my Supervisor to slow things down and have me work part
time. I'll be seeing him tomorrow. The only other alternatives are to give
up the gym (occupies about 15 hours a week), or lose some sleep. But that
affects the ability to focus...
And it's not because of COLA, but because of the general workload online.

Or idiots. But the intersection is most definitely not null. I've also
noticed that those attacking him soon give me cause to add them to my
twit list, unrelated to their vendetta.
