Linkage errors building tcl-8.4.16 on Windows (VS8)

I have downloaded the tcl 8.4.16 sources, and am building thenm on my
W2K machine using VS8.

Both static and dynamic lib builds are returning the same linkage error:

fatal error LNK1561: entry point must be defined


Has anyone come accross this before - and how may I fix it?
